PTAR UiTM Selangor Conducts Information Literacy Competency Course for Administrative Staff

PTAR UiTM Selangor Strengthens Information Literacy Skills Among Administrative Staff

Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR), UiTM Selangor Branch (UCS) organised an Information Literacy Competency Course aimed at enhancing the information management capabilities of administrative staff while strengthening their ability to utilise information effectively in the workplace.

The programme focused on developing essential skills in accessing, evaluating and using information ethically and responsibly. These competencies are increasingly important in supporting efficient administrative processes, improving service delivery and enabling staff to make more informed decisions based on reliable information.

Throughout the course, participants were introduced to several key areas related to information management. Among the topics highlighted were information searching techniques using PERMATA, the UiTM Library System, digital file management and information security ethics.

The session on information searching provided participants with an opportunity to enhance their ability to identify and retrieve relevant information through the library system. Effective searching skills can assist staff in locating appropriate information resources efficiently, particularly when information is required to support their respective work responsibilities.

In addition, digital file management and information security were also emphasised as important components of responsible information handling. Proper management of digital information helps ensure that documents and resources are organised effectively, while awareness of information security ethics promotes responsible practices when handling workplace information.

The course also reflects PTAR’s role in supporting the development of information literacy and knowledge management skills within the UiTM community. By equipping staff with relevant information management competencies, PTAR contributes towards more effective access to information and the continuous improvement of administrative services.

The UiTM Selangor Branch management expressed its hope that all participants would be able to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the course effectively in their daily tasks. The application of these competencies is expected to support greater work efficiency and contribute towards strengthening service quality and UCS excellence.

Through initiatives such as this, PTAR UCS continues to support the development of a more knowledgeable, information-literate and digitally responsible workforce, in line with the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.
