MyTheses is an in-house developed system, created by librarians from several universities in Malaysia, designed to host the full text of theses and dissertations. The platform represents an enhancement and progression from the earlier MyTO (Malaysian Theses Online) system, moving beyond metadata access to provide comprehensive, full-text availability.
It started by Chief Librarians of Malaysian public universities attended the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony for the Open Access Collaboration on Theses and Dissertations among Malaysian Public Universities, held at the Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya. This memorandum aims to expand access to research outputs from 20 public universities in Malaysia, thereby benefiting researchers and society as a whole. Through this collaboration, academic research will become more accessible and has the potential to enhance scholarly impact at both national and international levels. This historic ceremony was organized in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education (JPT) and was also held in conjunction with the Malaysia’s Research Star Award (MRSA) ceremony. The event was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, Minister of Higher Education. This collaboration is expected to create more opportunities for young researchers while improving the effectiveness of knowledge dissemination across various fields. The participation of 20 public universities in this initiative reflects a collective commitment to strengthening academic openness for the advancement of the nation.

Developed in alignment with the Dasar Akses Terbuka Tesis dan Disertasi IPT Malaysia (Open Access Policy for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions’ Theses and Dissertations), MyTheses strengthens national efforts to ensure scholarly works are more accessible, transparent, and impactful. By making postgraduate research widely available, it not only preserves the intellectual heritage of Malaysian universities but also supports knowledge sharing, academic visibility, and global discoverability.
