Day Two of MyTheses Workshop Strengthens University Digital Repository Practices

The second day of the MyTheses Digital Repository Enhancement Workshop continued with a series of intensive and knowledge-driven sessions, focusing on best practices in managing thesis repositories as strategic assets for universities.

The programme commenced with a keynote briefing titled “Thesis Repositories as Strategic Assets: Best Practices Towards Visibility and Open Access”, delivered by invited speaker Professor Dr. Haswira Nor Mohamad Hashim, Director of the Business Innovation & Technology Commercialization Centre (BITCOM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The session highlighted the importance of research visibility and emphasized the role of digital repositories as key enablers of innovation and knowledge commercialization.

The workshop proceeded with presentations on repository practices from international universities, followed by sharing sessions on best practices by local public universities, including Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Participants were also introduced to the implementation of the MyTheses project, alongside a hands-on workshop on digital repository metadata development, aimed at strengthening systematic cataloguing and data management practices.

As a gesture of appreciation, a token was presented by the Chief Librarian of UiTM, Ts. Haji Azizi bin Haji Jantan, to Professor Dr. Haswira Nor Mohamad Hashim in recognition of her valuable contribution to the knowledge-sharing session.

Overall, the second day of the workshop clearly demonstrated a continued commitment to enhancing the management of university digital repositories, ensuring they remain impactful, competitive, and aligned with global open access aspirations.
