The Tun Abdul Razak Library (PTAR) records its highest appreciation and sincere gratitude to Mr. Mohammad Sufian Abdul Manan, Senior Assistant Registrar of UiTM Press, for his generous contribution of a rare Jawi-language publication to the library’s Special Collections.

The donated material is entitled “Tragedy of 13 May: An Official Report”, authored by the National Operations Council (Majlis Gerakan Negara) and published on 9 October 1969. This work represents a significant historical document that records one of the most critical episodes in Malaysia’s post-independence history.
The 13 May 1969 Tragedy refers to a series of racial riots that occurred following the 1969 General Election, arising from heightened political tensions and socio-economic disparities among ethnic communities. The incident resulted in the loss of lives and property, and subsequently led to the establishment of the National Operations Council (MAGERAN). This governing body was tasked with restoring public order, strengthening national unity, and restructuring national policies to ensure long-term stability.
As a rare Jawi manuscript, this report holds substantial academic and heritage value. It serves as an important primary source for historical research, policy analysis in the post-1969 period, and the study of Jawi literacy. Its preservation contributes to safeguarding the nation’s collective memory and promoting intellectual and cultural appreciation among future generations.
