Puncak Perdana – The Tun Abdul Razak Library (PTAR), in collaboration with the Faculty of Information Science (FIS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), convened a discussion meeting on the implementation of the UiTM University Community Reading Index Study on 7 January 2026. The meeting was held at the Faculty of Information Science Meeting Room, UiTM Puncak Perdana.

The meeting was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Information Science, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Norhayati Hussin, and was attended by the Director of the Library Services Division, Mr. Ahmad Zuber, along with academic staff from the Faculty of Information Science and officers from the Tun Abdul Razak Library.

The primary agenda of the meeting was the presentation of the proposed framework for the implementation of the UiTM University Community Reading Index Study, delivered by Mr. Mohd Ismail Abidin. The study aims to assess reading practices among members of the university community as a strategic initiative to support the enhancement of reading promotion programmes, the cultivation of a knowledge-based culture, and the development of a knowledgeable society within UiTM.

In addition, the meeting deliberated on the overall direction of the study, the development of user profiles, the establishment of Reading Terms of Reference (TOR), as well as the potential acquisition of research grants to support a phased and high-impact implementation of the study.

The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the generation of new knowledge, serve as a foundation for strategic planning at both library and university levels, and result in the development of a University Reading Index that may be used as a benchmark for assessing reading levels among the UiTM university community.
