The RDA Standard Cataloguing Application Development Workshop organised by PTAR successfully took place on 4–5 February 2026 at Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak (PTAR), UiTM Shah Alam. The workshop brought together UiTM librarians with the aim of strengthening cataloguing competencies through the integration of digital technologies.
- The workshop strengthened librarians’ digital cataloguing skills.
- Manual RDA processes were fully migrated to a digital system.
- Librarians are emerging as drivers of innovation and digital knowledge systems.
Designed to support the evolving role of librarians in the digital era, the workshop focused on the practical application of Resource Description and Access (RDA) standards within a fully digital environment. Participants were introduced to innovative approaches that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability in bibliographic cataloguing practices.
Key areas of focus included the use of an RDA Application as a rapid reference tool for cataloguing, the migration of 100% manual RDA processes into a digital database using Google Sheets integrated with AppSheet, as well as basic exposure to backend systems and AppSheet functionalities. This technical foundation enables librarians to independently manage, maintain, and further develop the application internally.
The workshop featured knowledge-sharing sessions by Puan Jaz Norfazuna binti Jaafar and Encik Mohd Aizat bin Abd Halim, whose expertise highlighted the transformation of librarians’ roles. Their sessions demonstrated that modern librarians are no longer merely custodians of records, but increasingly act as architects of digital knowledge systems.
This initiative reflects UiTM Library’s commitment to driving innovation and leading digital transformation within academic libraries. By empowering librarians with advanced technological skills, PTAR continues to position itself at the forefront of future-ready information management.
Librarians drive innovation. Libraries lead transformation.
