Kuala Lumpur, 17 October 2025 — PTAR Chief Librarian, Ts. Haji Azizi bin Haji Jantan, appeared on Xplorasi AI, a programme by BERNAMA Radio, to share insights on the evolution and future of libraries in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
- UiTM Chief Librarian Ts. Haji Azizi featured on BERNAMA Radio’s Xplorasi AI to discuss library transformation in the AI era.
- He highlighted three key pillars: Digital Collection, Digital Services, and Digital Process.
- UiTM introduced AILA and PERMATA to advance towards a smart, AI-driven library system.
During the session, he emphasized that library transformation today revolves around three key components: Digital Collection, Digital Services, and Digital Process.
According to him, Digital Collection focuses on digitizing scholarly materials, theses, and reference resources to ensure broader information access. Digital Services enable users to obtain information anywhere, anytime, anyone through digital platforms and mobile applications. Meanwhile, Digital Process refers to the automation and digitization of workflows to enhance efficiency and improve user experience.
Ts. Haji Azizi also introduced AILA (Artificial Intelligence Library Assistant) — an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to help librarians manage daily tasks, remind users about material returns, and deliver personalized services to the library community.
He further highlighted the development of PERMATA (Perpustakaan Revolusi Maklumat Berteknologi AI), UiTM’s AI-driven integrated library system, which serves as a cornerstone for building a smart and connected library ecosystem. This initiative aligns with UiTM’s vision to be a Vibrant Centre of Learning and to strengthen the library’s role as a dynamic hub of knowledge in the digital age.
“Technology does not replace librarians; it complements and accelerates our work,” said Ts. Haji Azizi during the session.
This initiative reflects UiTM’s commitment to driving digital transformation in higher education, keeping pace with technological advancements and the needs of a knowledge-based society.
